Pontiac 400 428 455 Crate Engine

Pontiac 400 428 455 Crate Engine

AwesomeEngines® started racing with Pontiac being first in 1976. Being a fully 4 Axis CNC controlled machine shop  with the amazing Centroid 4 Axis B4250 block machining center, we are as good as any and better than most that can put a Pontiac back together. 40 years of Pontiac work makes us one of the best places to purchase your quality re-manufactured or Brand New Pontiac street or strip engine in the world.

The block starts with a general check over for any signs of any cracks or damage dis-qualifying the block, all threads being chased to perfection, then gets to be boiled for 8 hours to remove all debris from all surfaces, and finally hot soap and water pressure washed 30 minutes.

After 100% qualifications of the block, it is loaded in our CNC machining center, CNC probed on and in every area of the block to be readied for blue print machining, deck height, bore centers, lifter bore sizes and radial clearance if getting a stroker crank.

The Kaiser boring tool is switch out by the 24 CNC tool changer and the block is rotated to perfect 45° and -45° bank angles over the cam and crank center line. It is then CNC bored on perfect 4.640″ bore centers to .020-.030-.040-.060 overbore which ever is the smallest to preserve integrity of the block and keep as much metal for cooling.

The boring head is changed over to the CBN 12″ resurfacing tool and we deck the block to perfect 45° bank angles over the crank and cam center line and the block never leaves the machine. It is resurfaced to perfect 45° bank angles with a superior surface to insure no gasket sealing problems ever.

If any of the lifter bores are worn, the machine changes the tool and takes care of the lifter bores with a bronze sleeve or bore all of them out to a perfect lifter center line for a .875″ lifter to correct angles, position and wear.

The block is lastly rotated 180°, the tool is changed out and a radial clearance program is used to open up the block for whatever stroke up to 4.750″ you want for a stroker upgrade to increase CI size you can desire. The tool is change again and we put our AwesomeEngines® Logo-name and serial number in the block to insure you I have done my job correctly and you can identify the block as yours if someone misplaced it in their garage.

The block is removed then plate honed to specifications in the CV616 then hot washed again.

Meanwhile on the other side of the shop, the crank shaft is treated to a full inspection and only ground to the proper under size surface finish if not perfect.

We recondition all connecting rods with ARP HP bolts to perfect specifications.

We internally balance the complete assembly to .5 grams OZ-IN.

Pontiac steel heads are completely reconditioned with upgraded new valve guides and hardened valve seats if needed. A 3° angle valve job for the new intake and exhaust valves, new valve springs, retainers, locks, pc style seals, all set up for your camshaft choice after we resurface the heads with a light clean up pass.

New cam bearings, freeze plugs are installed during the complete assembly for a like brand new engine that will make more power and run longer than you could ever hope for. The now completely professionally assembled engine has its oil pump primed, new spark plugs installed then fully dyno tested and tune for up to 4 hours to make sure all components are broken in correctly and all engines vitals are perfect. If we do not dyno it we do not sell it. Why would we?

Who can control all aspects of the engine in house so you get perfect engine broken in properly with the right oil, filter and tuning with a dyno sheet with every aspect of the engines performance as well as all temps, oil pressure and power up to 5000 rpm.  Why would we let you or anyone else do the most important step of an engines procedure to any one else with a chance of missing something and damaging the engine? We control and inspect every aspect of our engine. We never leave this to the purchaser to have to do because this and is just a way of getting out of a problem when you have one by saying the break in procedure was done incorrectly. Ever heard of “its your fault the engine failed, its not covered”?  We do not do that. Ever watch a Monkey in a Garage? They break engines all the time because they do not have the experience to do the break in correctly.

We then put it on an engine cradle, box it up and send it to you all sealed up with all information, dyno sheet and instructions on what to do and what not to do. It just does not get any better.
